Brother Mtokufa H. Ngwenya

President, Mid-Atlantic Association of Alpha Chapters
Dual Member: Iota Upsilon Lambda (MD) & Omicron Lambda Alpha (DC)

Mtokufa (Mm-Toe-Coo-Fah) Ngwenya (Ing-Gwen-Yah) was born in Lusaka, Zambia, where vibrant culture and strong community values laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment to service and leadership. When his family relocated to Washington, DC, those roots sustained him through his formative years at DeMatha Catholic High School and the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice.

Initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Iota Zeta Chapter, Fall 2004) during college, Mtokufa has remained a steadfast leader, now serving as President of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Alpha Chapters. A proud dual member of Iota Upsilon Lambda (MD) and Omicron Lambda Alpha (DC), he is recognized for building bridges among Brothers, across chapters, and into the communities Alpha serves.

As President, Mtokufa introduced the R.A.C.E. framework: Retention, Accountability, Clear Communication, and Efficiency, which steers the Association’s work and transforms Brotherhood into measurable, lasting impact.

Civic & Professional Impact

Mtokufa’s professional journey began in technology, where he drove innovation, development, and sales strategies for associations and nonprofits. He later joined the District of Columbia Homeland Security Agency, sharpening a strategic skillset rooted in clear communication, operational excellence, and composure under pressure.

In 2016, he became Chief of Staff at the Council of the District of Columbia, advising principal leadership with discretion and strategic insight. He earned a reputation for confidential counsel and enabled decisive action during pivotal moments for District residents.

Today, as Partner at a Washington, DC commercial real estate and sustainable development firm, Mtokufa directs operations, ensures compliance, and leads complex capital projects that deliver tangible benefits to the community. Additionally, he curates exclusive travel experiences throughout Southern Africa, designing journeys that reveal the richness and beauty of the continent for fellow explorers.

Family & Values

At the core of Mtokufa’s life is his family. He and his wife, Dunni, a Vice President in the BioTech industry, enjoy world travel, sampling new Champagnes, and cultivating joy with their son, Kwanzinkosi. A lover of art and design, Mtokufa believes personal style is self-respect in action and a story told without words. Whether mentoring youth, advancing Fraternity initiatives, or fostering spaces for others to thrive, he inspires through bold leadership and authentic care.

Mtokufa Ngwenya’s story is defined by his global perspective, dedication to community, and unwavering drive to empower others. Whether leading Brothers in Alpha, managing civic initiatives, or creating new opportunities for the next generation, he unites vision and action, leaving a legacy rooted in integrity, service, and measurable impact.
